In the beginning, eBooks were written by people and sold for a much undervalued price (people didn't realize how in demand they would actually be at the time). Then people started to develop marketing strategies much like product companies use to figure out what exactly is in demand and they would pour a lot of money into building the perfect product. At some point a brilliant marketer realized that they could make more money by incorporating their own back end product links while giving people the ability to resell their eBooks after they bought it. This was called resell rights. This gave someone the ability to at the very least earn back the money for the book they purchased, and this would circulate the book virally bringing the publisher money indirectly through leads to their back end product sites.

That went on for a while then another brilliant marketer realized that they could get more viral marketing activity if they offered the reseller the ability to resell the book at one price directly to customers, and master resell rights to give their customers the ability to also resell the book (with limited resell rights not master rights). Since nobody can change the eBook contents this meant that more people would purchase it, get excited and resell it (and those people would in turn also resell the book!)!

The brilliance in this strategy is that the original seller, the publisher, generates a stream of money that pays each of their resellers in such a way that this money is funneled both as a way for people to make money on the product, but also as a cheap viable way to pay for abundant viral marketing for their back end products! Everybody wins in this scenario and the more the resellers or master resell rights sellers sell the product the better chance the publisher will get more leads for his or her site.

Many publishers found this technique so efficient and cost effective, not to mention helpful for helping people generate a little coin at the same time, that they would produce entire lines of books specifically for marketing purposes. The books were full of valuable content, worthy of the price of the book, resalable or not, but it embedded both the excitement of the information for the reader/knowledge seeker, and links to more products that could help the reader achieve their goals (and generate sales for the publisher!).

The individual master resell rights holder can make a fortune on this as well. The best position to be in, however, is the publisher. You can do this by purchasing PLR (private label rights) which gives you FULL control over the material (although unless you rewrite it completely you can't copyright it) allowing you to easily build your own eBook product and sell it the same way! Master resell rights can make you rich this way, and all those people looking to make a quick buck will do your marketing and lead building for your back end products. Make sure you have other products you promote within the eBook, and make sure it will enhance the information in the ebook! It's a wonderful win win scenario. Brilliant! Simply Brilliant.
